Hugh Jackman Battles Skin Cancer For The Third Time

Going through treatment for cancer is not something most people want to do in public, but when you're a movie star, you don't really get an option.

Hugh Jackman, the Australian actor best known for his work in "X-Men" and "Les Miserables," has revealed he is undergoing treatment for basal cell carcinoma (BCC) — a common form of skin cancer — on his nose for the third time in less than 12 months.


According to E!, a rep for Jackman confirmed he went through his third treatment for BCC recently and is "all good" now.







The actor was first treated for the disease in November 2013, notes Parentdish Canada. And though he was seen walking around New York this weekend with just a bandage on his nose (BCC is generally treated by removing the tumour and a layer of tissue around it), the potential for a more serious result is very real.

According to the most recent statistics, skin cancer is the fastest growing cancer in Canada, with 6,500 new cases of malignant melanoma. It is expected that 1,050 Canadians will die from melanoma in 2014.

While wearing sunscreen in the sun is good protection, staying out of the sun — especially during peak times from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — is even better, advises the Skin Cancer Foundation.
