80 suspected Nigerien terrorists nabbed in Plateau

At press time, neither the STF nor the council’s Chairperson, Mrs. Josphine Piyo, could confirm the number of houses burnt as they were still on ground, assessing the situation.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Abuh Emmanuel and Captain Iweha, told Vanguard in separate interviews that security personnel were on standby to swiftly respond to any distress call. It would be recalled that apart from last Friday’s simultaneous attacks in six villages in Bachit District of Riyom council, armed Fulani herdsmen on Monday night burnt several houses at Lwa village of the area, leaving many villagers stranded.

The Special Task Force, STF, has arrested 80 suspected terrorists in Rikkos area of Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State. The illegal immigrants from Niger Republic were said to have been contracted by yet-to-be identified person(s) to perpetrate violence in the state. Consequently, the STF advised citizens of the state to be alert and report any strange movements to relevant security agencies. Spokesman of STF, Captain Ikedichi Iweha, who confirmed that those arrested were Niger Republic nationals, said the suspects were currently facing investigation by security personnel to find out their mission in Jos. Meanwhile, the STF and the state Police Command have expressed concern over the renewed disruption of peace in the state, especially the recent attacks in Riyom Local Government and called on citizens to always be on alert and give timely information to security agencies for actions.
