Well I guess Mercy Johnson has given us the answers to our guesses. She truly is getting blacklisted for being too expensive. She confirmed this as she took to twitter to fire back. See tweets below...

But seriously she has a point, If you can't afford Heineken, make do with Kai Kai! So if movie marketers and producers can't afford to pay Mercy Johnson they could make do with cheaper actresses rather than blacklist her, or what do you guys think?

The Executive Director and Founder of The Africa International Film Festival, Chioma Ude, has announced  the appointment of Rita Dominic and Lynn Whitfield as AFRIFF Goodwill Ambassadors. The announcement was made today during a media parley at the AFRIFF offices in Victoria Island, Lagos.

Remarking on the choice of the two star actresses, Chioma said, “Rita Dominic is a consummate actress and indeed an African screen Icon, having won several awards and nominations throughout her career, most recently she became Africa’s Best Actress by winning The 2012 Africa Movies Academy Award (AMAA) for her role in the Kenyan film Shattered . Entertainment Award and City People’s Face of Nollywood Award. With over one hundred films to her credit, she has played a pivotal role in showcasing Nigerian cinema popularly known as Nollywood.” She further disclosed that it was not a difficult decision to make considering Rita’s accomplishments in the industry and the fact that she has been a regular face at, and contributor to, the AFRIFF dream from its
inaugural edition.

As for the Emmy Award winning Hollywood actress, Lynn Whitfield, Chioma said, “Lynn is a natural choice as AFRIFF Goodwill Ambassador not just for her accomplishments in Hollywood, but also because of her passionate support for the AFRIFF project since its inception.” Whitfield began her acting career in television and theatre, before progressing to supporting roles in film. She won an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or a Special and a NAACP Image Award for her performance as Josephine Baker in the HBO movie The Josephine Baker Story (1991). In her response Rita said, “I love that AFRIFF’s focus is youth empowerment and opening doors for the development of the African film industry which is my primary constituency. I am delighted to have been appointed an AFRIFF Goodwill Ambassador. It’s an organization that I cherish and respect and I look forward to working with stakeholders in the industry, the government, the private sector and non-governmental
organisations and social enterprises to see how we can ensure that this fantastic festival achieves its objectives and full potential.”

Nigeria smashes Uruguay.

Seems like the Nigerian football is getting so spicy! The U-17team golden eaglets left the Uruguayan team in tears as they smashed with a 2-0 win!

The match was a heated one, but the golden eaglets made sure they were at the top of the game with Taiwo Awonyi tactically scoring the pair of goal and sending Uruguayans packing in Sharjah.

The champions of Africa are through to the semi-finals against Sweden 5 November.

Nigeria however have played against Sweden in the group stage and there was sadly no clear winner thanks to the 3-3 draw. Let's hope this time Nigeria clearly hits it or it'll be a bye bye to a chance to get the the World Cup.

GEJ set to re-open Nigerian Universities next week with or without ASUU.

It's been 5months since the Academic Staff  Union of Universities started the ongoing strike and President Goodluck Jonathan seems to have had enough as he plans to re-open universities next week, with or without ASUU. Read the details below...

In a last ditch effort to resolve the ASUU strike, President Goodluck Jonathan will on Monday, November 4, meet with the leadership of ASUU at the Presidential Villa.

An official of the Vice President’s office who pleaded anonymity told Scan News that the President will at next Monday’s meeting present to the ASUU leadership the administration’s last concession for them to call off the prolonged strike.

But if ASUU f
ails to call off, the Federal Government will then resort to plan B, which will be to compulsorily open the universities, using the instrumentality of the governing councils and the school managements.
Already, most of the governing councils of the universities have started meeting to work out modalities for the compulsory re-opening of the universities should ASUU fail to honour the personal request of President Jonathan.

Scan News gathered that the Supervising Minister of Education, Barr. Nyesom Wike and the Vice Chancellors of Public Universities also discussed the re-opening of the schools last Monday. Most of the Vice Chancellors suggested the compulsory re-opening of the schools, should the last ditch efforts fail.

It was gathered that security report available to the Presidency may have necessitated this line of action to salvage the universities system from the direction it is facing.

Movie marketers threaten to blacklist Mercy Johnson

Now there are two sides of this story which I've heard, wonder which is true, but hey, my job is to give you the amebo, so I'll just tell you guys both stories...

First I heard that the movie marketers under the Film and Video Producers and Marketers Association of Nigeria, FVPMAN plan to blacklist Mercy Johnson Okojie in what they call "withdrawing of service from her" due to the "unbecoming attitude of the actress as it affects her work"

They accused her  of forming the habit of disappearing while on location after she has been paid for the job and also giving them difficult conditions. The marketers have also vowed to sanction any member who disregards the association's decision to blacklist the star actress.

The chairman of the association further advices it's member to release all the films featuring Mercy Johnson on or before January 2014.

Then the second story I heard is that the association plans to blacklist the start actress because her charges are pretty high. The star actress is currently the highest paid in the movie industry, she charges between 1.8 and 2million actress whereas other actresses like Ini Edo charge between 700k and 1.2million.
