Gunmen have attacked a wedding convoy in Nigeria's northeastern state of Borno, killing more than 30 people including the groom in a suspected ambush, witnesses and survivors said Sunday.
The attack happened on Saturday on the notorious Bama-Banki road when the wedding party, including friends and relatives of the groom, was making its way back to the state capital Maiduguri after the ceremony in Michika, in nearby in Adamawa State, they said.
"It was a gory scene," said a driver, who said he had seen the dead bodies on the highway.
The driver, who did not wish to be named, said that many of the victims appeared to have suffered gunshot wounds.
"All the victims were brutally murdered by the attackers. My passengers and I were visibly shocked when we met the dead bodies lying by the highway," he said.
Army and police officials in the area were not immediately available for comment. But a security source who described the incident as "brutal and callous" said the bodies had been transferred to a hospital in Maiduguri.
God help us in this country though!

28 killed and 200 injured in a stampede at Uke Adoration house

28 people have been reported dead and 200 injured in a stampede which took place in the early hours of yesterday November 2 at a prayer house in Uke, Idenmili known popularly known as "ebube monso"

According to an eye witness who pleaded anonymity, there was a vigil at the prayer house on Friday night which led to Saturday morning. And as the vigil was about to wrap up at about 4.45AM Gov. Peter Obi, his god son Willie Obiano and APGA  national chairman, Chief Victor Umeh stepped up to the podium to do a campaign.

I learnt Obi gave the Rev father 2million Naira which he rejected and asked him to give to the hungry masses, the governor also promised to give the church 5million naira to help salvage the erosion site behind the church... Obi went on and on and on till the congregation couldn't take it any more and began to chant " ONWA!!!! ONWA!!! ONWA!!!"

Given this, Obi's thugs started to approach the direction of the "ONWA" chants in the congregation. On trying to escape the supposedly armed thugs, it all turned into a stampede. At the end of the stampede, a total of 28 corpse were found and 200 injured people rushed to the hospital.

Has the house of God now turned into a campaign ground Mr Governor? And at that time of the day? May the souls of the deceased RIP! See pictures after the cut...

Nigeria smashes Uruguay.

Seems like the Nigerian football is getting so spicy! The U-17team golden eaglets left the Uruguayan team in tears as they smashed with a 2-0 win!

The match was a heated one, but the golden eaglets made sure they were at the top of the game with Taiwo Awonyi tactically scoring the pair of goal and sending Uruguayans packing in Sharjah.

The champions of Africa are through to the semi-finals against Sweden 5 November.

Nigeria however have played against Sweden in the group stage and there was sadly no clear winner thanks to the 3-3 draw. Let's hope this time Nigeria clearly hits it or it'll be a bye bye to a chance to get the the World Cup.

GEJ set to re-open Nigerian Universities next week with or without ASUU.

It's been 5months since the Academic Staff  Union of Universities started the ongoing strike and President Goodluck Jonathan seems to have had enough as he plans to re-open universities next week, with or without ASUU. Read the details below...

In a last ditch effort to resolve the ASUU strike, President Goodluck Jonathan will on Monday, November 4, meet with the leadership of ASUU at the Presidential Villa.

An official of the Vice President’s office who pleaded anonymity told Scan News that the President will at next Monday’s meeting present to the ASUU leadership the administration’s last concession for them to call off the prolonged strike.

But if ASUU f
ails to call off, the Federal Government will then resort to plan B, which will be to compulsorily open the universities, using the instrumentality of the governing councils and the school managements.
Already, most of the governing councils of the universities have started meeting to work out modalities for the compulsory re-opening of the universities should ASUU fail to honour the personal request of President Jonathan.

Scan News gathered that the Supervising Minister of Education, Barr. Nyesom Wike and the Vice Chancellors of Public Universities also discussed the re-opening of the schools last Monday. Most of the Vice Chancellors suggested the compulsory re-opening of the schools, should the last ditch efforts fail.

It was gathered that security report available to the Presidency may have necessitated this line of action to salvage the universities system from the direction it is facing.

Movie marketers threaten to blacklist Mercy Johnson

Now there are two sides of this story which I've heard, wonder which is true, but hey, my job is to give you the amebo, so I'll just tell you guys both stories...

First I heard that the movie marketers under the Film and Video Producers and Marketers Association of Nigeria, FVPMAN plan to blacklist Mercy Johnson Okojie in what they call "withdrawing of service from her" due to the "unbecoming attitude of the actress as it affects her work"

They accused her  of forming the habit of disappearing while on location after she has been paid for the job and also giving them difficult conditions. The marketers have also vowed to sanction any member who disregards the association's decision to blacklist the star actress.

The chairman of the association further advices it's member to release all the films featuring Mercy Johnson on or before January 2014.

Then the second story I heard is that the association plans to blacklist the start actress because her charges are pretty high. The star actress is currently the highest paid in the movie industry, she charges between 1.8 and 2million actress whereas other actresses like Ini Edo charge between 700k and 1.2million.
